TAKE YOUR CHOICE
I was driving home from work and began thinking about choices. Actually, life is filled with choices. It can probably be said that 99% of life is making choices. Sometimes, we do things that don’t make sense. Other times they make sense but we can’t exactly figure out why they make sense. It’s amazing how certain choices affect the rest of our lives. Little things we think are so important at the age of 10 mean nothing at all when we reach 25. But at the same time, some things stay forever as a regret or a good thing no matter how old you are when you make them. That’s why, I sometimes wonder about some of the choices I have made in my life.
Anyway, I was thinking about buying a new car, even tough my lovely car is not on its last legs. It’s not an immediate decision but I have to make my choice. In fact, it’s a joint decision. My wife and me have determined to buy a new car but, first of all, we have to take a look at the bank account, so we can know how much we can afford to spend for the total price of the vehicle. In addition, there are other factors to consider if we want to buy a new car. For instance, the make, model, extras, technology, safety, reliability, cost of insurance, automatic or manual transmission, fuel economy, maintenance costs, colour…
From my point of view, it’s really useful to let our family and friends know that we are planning to buy a new car because, for sure, they will offer suggestions on what type of car they have had particularly good or bad experience with. Another important consideration is the cost of insurance. It varies a lot depending on the make, year and model of the car, driver’s experience and many other factors. Personally I think, it’s recommended to get insurance quotes before buying a car.
I wish I could show you my new car very soon. Unfortunately, it’s a question of time and money.

LEONARD’S ANSWER
My dear Virginia,
There are no words to describe how I’m feeling because your letter produces a lot of different feelings in me. I would prefer to be with you at this moment, to sit with you and talk, face to face and heart to heart. I have been really patient with you and we have shared our daily activities during all these years. I know you have always tried to search for the meaning of life outside our marriage and I thought that only time could solve your problems but I was totally wrong.
I feel lost and hopeless in this world without you. But at the same time, I’m glad to know you have found peace with yourself. You are free from pain. You can forget about your frequent headaches and the strange voices you heard.
I hope you have chosen wisely and find your own happiness. I hope you life and enjoy your new life. I’m really sure there’s a huge amount of hope for your new future.
For me, tomorrow will be the same, or worse. I can’t imagine a life without you. You have been the love of my life.
Best wishes,
Leonard.09:40 Permalink | Comments (3) | Email this | Tags: EOI El Prat 4-2005
VILLAGES vs. TOWNS
Last Thursday in class, my classmate and me talked about the homosexual marriages. At first, we wanted to make an oral presentation about having children, but we didn’t find many arguments in order to generate a debate. Personally I think, it’s better to choose a topic where you can see different points of view.
For those people haven’t made their choice any topic yet, I can recommend them talking, for example, about the differences between living in cities and living in rural areas. That’s why; I’ve prepared some useful ideas to develop your oral presentation.
On the one hand, the cities have a higher cost of living so if you want to get a good quality of life you must earn a lot of money. It’s particularly expensive to buy or rent a flat or an apartment. For anyone who loves the city life, this offers everything you need. You can find shopping area, beautiful parks, interesting monuments, different kinds of restaurants, an exciting nightlife-especially on Fridays and Saturdays- etc…
On the other hand, the rural life is cheaper, healthier and less noisy. People in rural areas are calmer and they have the freedom of the fields and beautiful views. Also, it’s safe to walk on the streets at night, it’s easy to park your car and everybody knows everybody else in the village. However, they don’t have enough entertainment for young people, means of transport, schools, job opportunities, types of housing…
I think that two of the biggest problem of the city are the traffic and the pollution. The traffic is awful because there are always roadworks and too many cars and the pollution is an issue that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible, not only for the environment but also for people who live in the city.
From my point of view, it’s difficult to choose between city and countryside life because in both cases there are some brilliant things to live in. That reminds me of the story of my extrovert ex-neighbour, Tony. He lived on a farm in a small village with his parents and he didn’t like this type of lifestyle because life on the farm was really boring and he knew that there were lots of opportunities outside the farm. He wanted an exciting life and a busy social life. He moved from the village to the city and he met a marvellous woman and they got married. They had a successful life and a beautiful home. But after having three children he started to change. In his dreams he walked down all the roads and across the river. He remembered the smells and sounds of his peaceful village. After that, he persuaded his wife and kids to leave the city. It was a difficult decision. Finally, they moved to the village. After a long time, I received a letter from Tony. He told me that they are happier to be in the village and to be together.
I suppose that you know other different stories from other people but with this story I realise that most people who have children prefer to work less and spend more free time with their family. They definitely prefer to be in a peaceful and quiet place.
In conclusion, if you can, choose the place where you would like lo live and remember that home is where the heart is.
